Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Ahmedabad
Welcome to your ‘Colors of Gujarat ’ tour! On arrival at the airport / railway station in Ahmedabad, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Later, proceed on a half day city tour of Ahmedabad visiting Gandhi Ashram, Utensils Museum, the Jama Mosque and Akshardham Temple .

Gandhi Ashram : Located on the banks of the Sabarmati River Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram was founded in 1917. Gandhi lived in a small cottage at the ashram, which is now known as ;Hridaya (Heart) Kunj;. The grounds also include Vinoba-Mira Kutir, where both Vinoba and Mira stayed on separate visits: Upasana Mandir, an open-air prayer ground and Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya, a museum containing personal items of Gandhi.

Jama Mosque : Revered as the oldest and most beautiful of all mosques of Ahmedabad, Jama Masjid was built in 1423 by King Ahmad Shah I, founder of the city. One of the best examples of Gujarat;s Islamic architecture, it is supported by 260 pillars and has 15 domes. It;s built of yellow sandstone and contains a spacious courtyard paved in marble enclosed by beautiful arches.
The evening is at leisure. Overnight in Ahmedabad.

Day 2: Ahmedabad – Modhera – Patan – Ahmedabad (135 km / approx. 4 hours drive)
This morning, proceed on an excursion to the Sun Temple at Modhera that dates back to the early 11th century. Built in 1026 AD by King Bhimdev of the Solanki dynasty, the relics at the sun temple is dedicated to the natural elements fire, air, earth, water and sky alongside the sculptures of many gods.
Later, visit Patan famous for Jain temples, one of the most important being the Mahavir Swami Derasar in Dhandherwad. Also, visit the Rani ki Vav (the Queen’s Stepwell), an excellent example of subterranean architecture of Gujarat.
The rest of the evening is at leisure for independent activities. Overnight in Ahmedabad. (B)

Day 3: Ahmedabad – Bhavnagar (175 km / approx. 5 hours drive)
After breakfast, proceed to Bhavnagar, en route visit the Lothal Harappan archaeological site. It was one of the most prominent cities of the ancient Indus valley civilization. Located in the modern state of Gujarāt. It stands as one of India’s most important archaeological sites of that era. Discovered in 1954, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) excavated Lothal from February 13, 1955 to May 19, 1960.

Note: Lothal Harappan archaeological site is closed on Fridays.
On arrival, check in the hotel in Bhavnagar.
The rest of the dayis at leisure to explore the city. Overnight in Bhavnagar. (B)

Day 4: Bhavnagar – Palitana (60 km / approx. 1 hour drive)
This morning, enjoy an excursion to Palitana to visit various temples located on top of the Shatrunjay Hill. Consisting of 863 temples, it is the largest cluster of Jain Temples. These temples ascend from the base of the hill to the top of the hill. Climb over 3500 steps and see detailed carvings at each temple grouped into nine enclosures.
The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Bhavnagar. (B)

Day 5: Bhavnagar – Sasan Gir (220 km / approx. 6 hours drive)
This morning, proceed to Sasan Gir, home to the Asiatic Lion. On arrival, check in to the hotel.
The rest of the day is at leisure to relax. Overnight in Sasan Gir. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Sasan Gir
The morning is at leisure or one can enjoy a morning jeep safari at Gir National Park (Entry fee and safari charges on direct payment basis). Gir National Park is the sole home for pure Asiatic lions, situated about 65 Kilometers south east of Junagarh district in the Indian state of Gujarat. Established on 18th September, 1965; the sanctuary covers a total area of 1412 square kilometers in the Saurastra region of Gujarat. Primarily the park was dedicated to conserve the Asiatic Lion which is identified as world most endangered species. Many researchers and hunters from the different part of the world come to Gir because it is the only place where lion exist other than Africa.
Note: The park is open from 16th October to 15th June.
Later, visit the Kamleshwar Dam that presents a panoramic view of Gir hills and forest. The reservoir also harbours of a large population of crocodiles and is a good spot to observe water birds.
The rest of the day is at leisure or one can enjoy an afternoon jeep safari at Gir National Park.
Overnight in Sasan Gir. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Sasan Gir – Diu (100 km / approx. 3 hours drive)
Today, your journey takes you to one of India’s undiscovered gems; where the sand, sea and sky meet in harmony, Diu.
On arrival, check in to the hotel.
The rest of the day is at leisure to laze and relax on the beach. Overnight in Diu. (B)

Day 8: Diu
After breakfast, proceed for a sightseeing of Diu, which includes a visit to Nagoa Beach, St. Paul’s Church, St. Thomas Church, Diu Fort .
Shaped like a horseshoe (semi-circle), Nagoa Beach is located in the Nagoa hamlet of the Bucharwada village. This serene and secluded palm-fringed beach stretches about two km from one end to the other. The beach is surrounded by dense groves of the unique Hoka-palm trees, which are found only on the island of Diu.
St. Paul’s Church – dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, St. Paul Church was built between 1601 and 1610. Named after St. Paul, the apostle of Jesus Christ, it resembles the Bom Jesus Church of Goa. Its baroque style of architecture, elaborate gothic facade, intriguing volutes, shell-like motifs and artistically carved woodwork make it one of the most elaborate of all Portuguese churches in India.
The gigantic Church of St. Thomas, originally built in 1598, was converted into a museum in 1998. Today, known as the Diu Museum, is a repository of important archaeological exhibits including antique statues, stone inscriptions, wooden carvings, idols, shadow-clocks and several other important artifacts.
Diu Fort – surrounded by the sea on the three sides, the Diu Fort is an imposing structure that dominates the towns and offers a magnificent view of the sea. The fort with its double moat, cannons, stone cisterns, chapels and barracks was known to provide a strategic vantage point against enemy attacks.

Day 9: Depart Diu
Today, bid farewell to ‘Colors of Gujarat tour, as you are transferred from hotel in Diu to the railway station in Veraval for your onward journey. (B)
